Charleston man behind bars after burglary, assault

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston man was arrested late Tuesday night after residents of a Rutledge Avenue home told police he broke into their house and assualted two people.

According to police, George Patrick Carlin, 19, repeatedly called one of the residents starting at 11 p.m. and when she would not talk to him, Carlin showed up at her home and punched through a glass pane in the front door.

Carlin let himself in, said police, and started physically assaulting two other people at the home until he fled the scene.

The victims told police he lived on nearby Cannon Street and officers started searching the area for Carlin. They found him at his home at midnight.

Medics were called to treat one of the victims who had been hit in the eye. Officers noted several pools of blood and blood smears along the walls and floors of the home that the victims said were from Carlin.

Carlin was charged with 1st degree burglary and three counts of 1st degree assault and battery.

He is being held in the Charleston County Detention  Center.
