WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - A man wanted in connection with a July 6 armed robbery of the Kangaroo Express on Sniders Highway was arrested Wednesday.

Nigel A. Holmes, 19, faces armed robbery, possession of a firearm during commission of a violent crime and first-degree assault and battery charges. His bond was set at $200,000.

Authorities waited to arrest and charge Holmes until he recovered from a gunshot wound sustained during the robbery. The other suspect, 22-year-old Octavio Cochran, was found dead in the woods near the store.

Police said the suspects went to the gas station with a gun and demanded money from the clerk. Then the suspects shoved the pistol into the clerk's stomach and the clerk fought back, taking control of the gun and firing at both suspects.

While the investigation into the shooting is ongoing, it does not appear the gas station clerk will face criminal charges.
