CARTA fares increase, cuts still looming

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority approved Wednesday a 25-cent fare increase, but pushed off further discussions on cutting routes until the September meeting.

Beginning Oct. 1, adults will pay an extra quarter per ride and the semester-long pass for students was raised from $60 to $70. Riders under the age of six will still ride for free.

The rate increase is the first in almost two years.
