WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A homeowner surprised a group of alleged bicycle thieves Thursday evening and helped police identify and capture all five of them.
Police were able to arrest Kaleb Singleton, 20, Joseph Jenkins, 18, and three juveniles.
When Michael Wright stepped out of his kitchen door and into his garage, he didn't expect to see a group of black men on bicycles sitting in his driveway and another inside his garage trying to take Wright's bike.
When the group spotted Wright step outside, they fled the scene, but Wright was able to grab one of the juveline suspects and detain him until police arrived.
A witness told officers the group of cyclists was headed in the direction of Magwood Drive. Police were able to catch up with the group then.
The juveniles were charged with accessory before the fact and burglary. Singleton was charged with burglary and Singleton was charged with accessory after the fact. Both men were lodged in the Charleston County Detention Center.
All of the bicycles were catalogued and logged into Charleston police evidence.
