Local instrument maker looks to give kids instruments

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston-based instrument manufacturer Musicorp is sponsoring an essay contest, the winners of which will get a free musical instrument.  The contest is meant to inspire kids to follow their passions.

The essay contest is geared to local middle school students.  The essays should be between 150 and 250 words and address the following questions:

  • Which instrument would you like to win and why?
  • How will a new musical instrument help you achieve your future goals?
  • Why is music education important?

Each student is also required to be enrolled or to enroll and participate in a school music program.

Contest submissions will be taken from September 7th and October 8th 2010.  Five writers will be chosen as winners.  Each winning student will also receive an award certificate and a bag of maintenance kits, books, stands, and other small accessories to help them learn and care for his or her new instrument.
