Boy, 5, dropped off by school bus along highway a mile from home

INDIAN LAND, SC (WBTV) - Officials are trying to find out why a kindergartner was dropped off at the wrong location on Tuesday causing the child to walk home until he was spotted by another school bus.

The youngster is enrolled at Indian Land Elementary School and was riding Bus #6.

After the 5 year old was dropped off at the wrong location, the boy started walking to his home on Highway 521 which is about a mile away.

Some drivers saw the boy walking and immediately notified the school.

Just as the boy was about to accept a ride in a stranger's car, a school bus saw the boy and picked him up.

Officials with the Lancaster County School District say they are taking action to ensure this type of mistake doesn't happen again.

They also tell us the bus driver who dropped off the student has only been on the job for two weeks.  There's no word, yet, as to whether the driver will be disciplined.
