Van, train collide; Ashley Phosphate backed up as crews work

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston police are working to clear an accident in which a train collided with a 2-ton truck Friday afternoon.

Police say that a 2-ton truck was stuck on the tracks as the train approached Southrail at Ashley Phosphate Road. The truck attempted to make it across the track, including bumping a Chrysler minivan, but did not clear the tracks in time.

The train collided with the truck and police say the driver of the truck was not injured in the accident. The train was not derailed either, police said.

At this time, both north and southbound lanes on Ashley Phosphate Road are open, but traffic is backed up in the area, police said.
