BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Hanahan High School closed at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after a power outage has left the school in the dark, said district officials.
Kathie Sizemore, the information officer for the Berkeley County School District said SCE&G was working to restore power but it would not be restored until late afternoon.
SCE&G said the power outage was due to a squirrel that chewed into a high voltage cable. The school's power had to be completely shut off to make the necessary repairs, said Roxanne Argo from SCE&G.
The power company expected to have the repairs completed by 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The squirrel did not survive.
