CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police are investigating an early morning shooting in downtown Charleston after a man told them he was shot several times in an apparent bicycle robbery.
Charleston police found a wounded Cordelria Germain Jefferson, 23, in the driveway of a Morris Street home. He had gunshot wounds in his left thigh, hip and left hands, said a report.
Jefferson told officers he was riding his bicycle down Morris Street around midnight when he stopped to light a cigarette. When he turned around, he saw the suspect standing there with a gun.
Jefferson tried to wrestle the gun away from his assailant and was shot in the process, said the police report.
He was only able to tell investigating officers that the suspect was a black man and the gun was a revolver. Jefferson did not know in which direction the suspect ran.
He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
