CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County Councilman and Fort Dorchester High School Assistant Principal Henry Darby was struck by an SUV in downtown Charleston.

According to the traffic incident report, 54-year-old Darby was walking to a parking garage when he was struck by an SUV at Meeting and Queen streets on Thursday, Sept. 2. Darby had been at the Dock Street Theatre attending a play.

The driver of the vehicle, Todd Kuhl, was issued a summons for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, said Charleston Police Information Officer Charles Francis. The charge is a misdemeanor, he said.

The Post and Courier reported Wednesday that Darby may need as much as a month off from his duties to recuperate from head injuries he received in the accident.
