DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A man was arrested and charged this week with breaking into revival cabins at the Shady Grove Campground in Dorchester County.
The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office arrested 30-year-old Timothy Elijah Amaker of Harleyville this week and charged him with burglary.
According to deputies, Amaker broke into 11 cabins between Aug. 10-13 and stole cast iron stoves, refrigerators and sinks to sell to scrap metal businesses.
Chief Deputy Sam Richardson said some of the stolen items have been recovered.
On Aug. 23, deputies charged Amaker with receiving stolen goods and obtaining goods by false pretenses in regards to selling the stolen items. He was released on bond.
The host pastor for the camp was shocked to learn about the break-ins. "I think one has to be real sinister to invade a holy ground such as this, and one that has been in existence 140 years," said Dr. John Elliott.
Richardson said a fingerprint lifted from the crime scene connected Amaker to the burglaries.
He was arrested Wednesday and is being held at the Dorchester County Detention Center.
Dr. Elliott said the burglaries will not delay next month's annual camp meeting at Shady Grove.
Anyone with information on the stolen items should call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111. You don't have to give your name and may earn a cash reward.
