CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Firefighters will ring a bell on the South Carolina coast to remember the hundreds of New York firefighters who fell in the attack on the World Trade Center.
Firefighters gather near an old fire watch tower in Charleston's historic district on Saturday to ring the old fire bell in what has become an annual ceremony in the city.
The bell tolls 343 times at 9:59 a.m. to correspond to the time the first tower of the World Trade Center collapsed.
Nine Charleston firefighters fell battling a 2007 blaze in a local furniture store.
