WALTERBORO, SC (AP) - A former member of the Harlem Globetrotters and a retired U.S. Army general are coming to South Carolina to speak to young people about building character.
Larry "Gator" Rivers and retired U.S. Army Gen. Walter F. Johnson III are in Colleton County on Saturday to speak at a drug and crime prevention gathering at a middle school gymnasium in Walterboro.
Rivers played with the Harlem Globetrotters from 1973 to 1986. He has established Gator Academy, a youth mentoring foundation, and is a motivational speaker at schools and businesses.
Johnson has recently written a book about the importance of spirituality in his military career.
