Boeing picks spot in Ladson for new interior parts plant

LADSON, SC (WCSC) - Boeing has picked and purchased the location for its interior parts plant at the Palmetto Commerce Park in Ladson.

The 34-acre parcel will be the site of the 250,000 square foot facility. Workers will build parts like stow bins, closets, partitions, class dividers and overhead flight crew rests at the plant.

The official name for the facility will be the Interior Responsibility Center South Carolina.

This site is just a few miles away from the main Boeing 787 plant in North Charleston. The plant is expected to hire about 150 workers. Boeing officials say that having the two plants closer to each other will improve the efficiency of the assembly and delivery process.

Hiring will start early next year with the facility set to open in 2012. Construction is expected to start within the next year.

Right now, Boeing is looking for employees for the Dreamliner's final assembly plant.
