Stretch of Courtenay Drive to become one-way

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The stretch of Courtenay Drive between Spring and Cannon Streets will become a two lane, one-way street soon.  The changed section will be open to drivers on Monday morning, September 19.

The conversion will happen in stages.  This will allow road and utility crews time to finish any additional work before the conversion takes effect.  The stages are scheduled as follows:

Lane Closure on Tuesday, Sept. 14 - Friday, Sept. 17 between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

  • A lane closure will occur on Courtenay Drive between Cannon Street and Spring Street.  Traffic coming from Cannon Street or from Courtenay Drive between Cannon Street and Calhoun Street will be detoured to take a left onto Westcott Street, which will take traffic to Spring Street.  Detour signs and message boards will be installed to direct motorists.

 Road Closure on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 a.m. - Monday, Sept. 19 at 6 a.m.

  • The entire road closure will occur on Courtenay Drive between Cannon Street and Spring Street.  Traffic coming from I-26 and Mount Pleasant will be detoured to turn left onto Lockwood Drive.  Detour signs and message boards will be installed to direct motorists.
  • One lane for one-way traffic will be re-opened prior to Monday morning.  Traffic coming from Cannon Street or from Courtenay Drive between Cannon Street and Calhoun Street should turn left onto Westcott Street.
