GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) - A Pawleys Island man was arrested and charged Wednesday with attempted murder, the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office announced.
Damien Chevern Grate, 19, was charged with attempted murder after deputies say he shot Bruton Bryant Monday evening. The shooting stemmed from an argument, deputies said.
Deputies responded to a shooting at a Petigru Drive address Monday evening and found Bryant with a gunshot wound to his leg.
During the investigation, deputies learned that Grate and Bryant were arguing over a cell phone. During the argument, Grate allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Bryant in the leg. He fled the scene in a vehicle, deputies said.
Deputies said they amassed enough evidence to positively identify Grate as the shooter and issued a warrant for his arrest.
When deputies went to Grate's home, the suspect fled the house and into a nearby wooded area. Grate's mother called her wanted son and convinced him to return home where he was taken into custody.
Grate is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center.
