Summerville woman indicted on counterfeiting charges

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - A Summerville woman was indicted Wednesday in federal court for allegedly making and passing counterfeit currency, the US Attorney's Office reported.

Ashley Johnson, 25, was charged with counterfeiting. The indictment alleges that in November 2008, Johnson made counterfeit $100 Federal Reserve Notes. She passed those notes in December 2009, US Attorney Bill Nettles said.

If she is convicted, Johnson faces a maximum penalty of $250,000 and imprisonment of 20 years, Nettles said.

The case was investigated by the US Secret Service and the Summerville Police Department.
