Colleton County tobacconist robbed at gunpoint

WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - A man walked into a Walterboro tobacco shop Saturday, pointed a gun at employees and made off with about $3,500, says the Colleton County Sheriff's Office.

According to the police report, a black male walked into The Tobacco Shop on Hampton Street and ordered the two female employees to the floor. A third victim exited the restroom and the assailant pushed the gun into his face and ordered him to the ground as well.

The accused robber, who spent the entire heist on a cell phone, then told the cashiers to empty their registers. Both women complied and the suspect calmly walked out of the store.

As the suspect left the scene, he dropped his sunglasses, some cash from the robbery and other evidence in the street. The store's owner gave surveillance video that clearly shows the suspect to deputies.

Investigators are looking for a black male who is approximately 25 years old. The sheriff's office continues to investigate the crime.
