NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Students from thirteen area schools will compete in a food drive to benefit the Lowcountry Food Bank. The six week effort hopes to raise 75,000 pounds of food, which would provide 57,000 meals for local families.
Participating students will learn about hunger in the community, and will engage in a series of events that will teach them about creativity, entertainment, communication, business practices, purchasing negotiations, fundraising, and social concerns.
A kick-off party takes place from 6-8 p.m. at the food bank's Paul Hulsey Community Food and Nutrition Center Tuesday. Students will sign a pledge can, take part in a skit competition, and meet students from other schools participating in the program.
Area high schools competing in the food drive are Ashley Ridge High School, Burke High School, Cane Bay High School, School of the Arts High School, Cross High School, Garrett High School, Military Magnet High School, North Charleston High School, Stall High School, Star Academy at Berkeley High School, Wando High School, and West Ashley High School.
