South Carolina gets millions of dollars for teacher merit pay

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - South Carolina is poised to receive over $47 million in federal funding to reward teachers and principals who work in schools that have a high demand for educators and are hard to staff.

The money comes from the Teacher Incentive Fund and is aimed at compensating quality educators.

South Carolina is among 27 states to receive money from the $442 million distributed nationwide.

This marks the first phase of the teacher incentive program which has more than $1 billion in funding over the next five years.
