Despite adversity, YouTube singer finds inspiration through music

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - At 32 years old, Angel Morey has overcome obstacles.

Life's challenges started on day one. Angel was born with no arms and one leg.

"I pretty much do everything I can on my own," said Morey.

She even battles a stomach disease that won't allow her food to digest properly.

"It's difficult to eat throughout the day because my stomach fills up with food and it doesn't go down quick enough so I get sick a lot," said Morey.

Nine surgeries later, including one procedure on her throat, Morey still sings. It's an escape.

She posts her songs on YouTube and they reflect what she's going through. One song in particular is "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera. She sings it to all her "haters" -- those who've judged the way she looks.

Angel says she also finds inspiration from Susan Boyle, the superstar singer from Britain's Got Talent. She says they share something in common.

"You could just see it immediately how people judged her based on how she looked," said Morey. "Simon looked at her and was like, 'Hmmm.' When she sang, she blew everyone away. I have always dreamed of that opportunity."

Morey recently auditioned to sing a duet with Boyle on her second album. Although she didn't win, she still has a message for those who want to pursue their dreams in the midst of great difficulty.

"Everyone's got troubles," said Morey. "It doesn't matter what it is. We're all struggling and the best thing to do is to keep your head up high, keep pushing forward."
