BEAUFORT, SC (WCSC) - A pair of Burton siblings were sentenced to prison Thursday for unrelated crimes the pair committed.
Carla Griffin, 31, was convicted of unlawful neglect of a child and sentenced to three years in prison followed by three years of probation. Griffin gave her 3-year-old child a mixed alcoholic drink in March of 2010. That drink, combined with medication the child was taking, landed the child in the hospital with breathing problems.
Later Thursday, Griffin's brother, 37-year-old Kevin Griffin, pleaded guilty to charges in connection with a series of burglaries that occurred in December 2009 and March 2010. Kevin Griffin was sentenced to nine years in prison.
In the last of the burglaries, a high school girl came home and found Griffin in her house on March 11. Griffin fled the scene, and the Beaufort County K-9 Tracking Team led investigators back to Griffin's home where deputies were already in the process of executing a search warrant in Carla Griffin's case.
Kevin Griffin was found to be in possession of jewelry from a robbery the night before. Deputies also found goods stolen in the December burglaries in Griffin's house.
