Charleston police detail flooded intersections, downed traffic lights

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston Police Monday afternoon produced a list of problem intersections as heavy rains continue to fall across the Lowcountry.

As expected, downtown Charleston is being heavily impacted by the rains. The police list shows 15 intersections currently underwater or with malfunctioning traffic lights on the peninsula alone. A duo of flooded intersections on James Island and a pair of malfunctioning traffic lights in West Ashley round out the police department's list.

In a late afternoon update, patrol units in the areas said all of the areas are passable, but there were still areas of standing water. Crews were also able to repair all but two of the malfunctioning traffic lights.

Police say they will continue to update this list as more information comes in. We have created a Google Map to detail the problem areas. Blue markers denote flooded intersections, red markers denote malfunctioning lights, and the lone purple marker denotes a combination of flooding and an inoperable light.
