Williamsburg county deputy in wreck that killed other driver

KINGSTREE, S.C. (AP) - A Williamsburg County sheriff's deputy has been involved in a wreck that killed the driver of the other vehicle.

The Morning News of Florence reported that Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins says the wreck happened late Monday afternoon about 15 miles northeast of Kingstree.

Collins says 41-year-old Deputy Tyrone Williams was traveling east on state Highway 261 in his patrol car when it struck a car traveling west.

The victim's name has not been released.

Collins says investigators have not determined which car crossed the centerline of the road. No charges have been filed.

Sheriff Michael Johnson says Williams was taken to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence for treatment.
