N. Charleston police arrest man for firing gun during domestic assault

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A questionable text message turned into a domestic dispute and then landed one man in jail after police say he assaulted and then fired a gun at his child's mother.

According to North Charleston Police, officers responded to 3878 Chestnut St. around 2 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a domestic assault that apparently stemmed from a text message the victim received.

Officers met with the victim who stated that the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Lavell Williams, hit her in the head with a gun, choked her, pointed a gun at her face and then shot at her.

The victim's mother and grandmother were in the car at the time of the incident, the police report stated. The child the victim and Williams share was not present at the time of the assault, police said.

Williams fled the scene, but was apprehended a short time later. The incident is still under investigation.

Williams was charged with attempted murder.
