COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC)- The state Budget and Control Board has sent a clear message to South Carolina's public colleges and universities, cut tuition or do not count on any taxpayer money for new construction projects.
In a unanimous vote this week, the board approved the measure.
According to the state Budget and Control Board the College of Charleston, the Citadel, and MUSC are among the impacted schools.
Spokespersons with the College of Charleston and the Citadel said they are awaiting specifics of the moratorium before taking action.
Trident Technical College kept its tuition increase low enough to satisfy the board and will not be impacted by the moratorium.
Construction projects already underway at the state's public colleges and universities will continue according to a representative with the state Budget and Control Board.
