CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Charleston police arrested a man wanted on domestic assault charges related to a violent September incident with his ex-girlfriend.
Rynell Ancrum was arrested at 3 p.m. Wednesday on Quail Hollow Court. He is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and kidnapping, stemming from an incident on Sept. 19.
According to police, officers responded to 1840 Carriage Lane in reference to an assault in progress on Sept. 19. A witness told police that she heard the victim screaming inside her apartment and then heard a loud boom. About 10 minutes later, the victim came to the witness' apartment holding a blood-soaked towel on her head seeking help.
The victim told police that she was in an argument with Ancrum, her ex-boyfriend, when he turned violent and refused to let her leave the apartment. She told police that during the struggle Ancrum choked the victim until she was unconscious.
After regaining consciousness, she said she tried to leave the apartment, but Ancrum grabbed the back of her head and slammed it into the door knob, causing a deep laceration on her head. Bruising of the victim's upper chest was also visible from the struggle.
Ancrum is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center
