CALHOUN COUNTY, SC (WIS) - South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers and emergency workers are expected to be on the scene of a fatal accident near mile marker 121 on Interstate 26 westbound most of the day.
According to troopers, the multi-vehicle accident happened around 9:00 a.m. The westbound lanes I-26 are shut down while officials investigate the crash that killed at least one person and sent 4 to the hospital.
One of the tractor trailers involved in the wreck was carrying batteries. Haz-mat crews are cleaning battery fluid off of the interstate.
Troopers say the eastbound lanes are open, but are very slow in the area of the wreck.
The westbound detour route is as follows:
Westbound on I-26 – get off at exit 129 and continue to loop around back to I-26 westbound. You will be getting back on at mm 119.
Troopers are urging all eastbound traffic going toward Charleston on I-26 remain on the interstate to alleviate congestion on the detour route.
