Tropical storm becomes Hurricane Otto in Atlantic Ocean

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The National Hurricane Center upgraded Tropical Storm Otto to a hurricane at 11 a.m. Friday.

Winds are now 75 miles per hour, but Hurricane Otto does not pose a threat to anyone as it continues moving northeast and further out into the open Atlantic Ocean.

Hurricane Otto is the eighth hurricane this year and the overall count is now at 15 named storms with eight hurricanes and five major hurricanes. The normal number per year is 11 named storms, six hurricanes and two major hurricanes.
