NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Job placement company Chipton-Ross is holding a career fair Friday and Saturday in North Charleston. The company specializes in helping workers and professionals in the aerospace, automotive, manufacturing and high tech industries find jobs.
The career fair will be held at 6926 Rivers Avenue in North Charleston. It runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. Workers in engineering, light industry, information technology and professional positions are encouraged to attend.
"They let us know exactly what they're looking for in a candidate as far as responsibilities, requirements," recruiter Nate Karlin of Chipton-Ross said. "We've put a lot of people to work so far and it's really the tip of the iceberg."
The bulk of the need is for touch labor candidates on the manufacturers side. Quality candidates are hands on people working as mechanics and electrical assemblers.
"Salaries are very competitive for this kind of work," Karlin said. "There's a ton of talent in this area. There's been a ton of really qualified people coming through the door. I had no idea there was so much talent locally."
Ross said that thousands of jobs will come through the fair and all people need to bring is a resume and a great attitude.
David Pendergrass attended the fair Friday looking for a job.
"I'm wide open," Pendergrass said. "Wherever they can fit me I'd like to be. I'd just like to get a couple of interviews."
Pendergrass said he wanted to get a jump on everybody else by attending early on the first day of the fair.
"When I first got here it was like a restaurant quite a few people here," Pendergrass said.
Due to a confidentiality contract, Chipton-Ross can't disclose for whom they're hiring specifically, but it is a large aerospace corporation that recently came to the area. There were quite a few pictures of Boeing framed, and hanging on the walls in the reception area.
The fair will also run on Saturday from 9-3, and Karlin says please bring a resume' and a great attitude.
