Middle school teacher killed in Berkeley County wreck

HUGER (WCSC) – According to the Berkeley County Coroner's Office, a teacher was killed Sunday night after her car went off the road on United Drive.

The victim was identified Monday as 29-year-old Alison Harrigan, from Huger. Harrigan was a teacher at Rosemary Middle School in Andrews. The accident happened a ½ mile from her home. She was returning home from a trip to Charleston. Her family resides in Gaithersburg, Md.

Authorities say two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when one car crossed the center line and overcorrected and went off the right side of the road, causing the driver to overturn and be ejected.

According to Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Salisbury, the driver was pronounced dead on the scene from head and body injuries. The second vehicle ran into a ditch, but did not make contact with the other vehicle.

The Berkeley County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating this accident.
