Summerville residents seek permit to protest Confederate flag

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The woman behind a flag feud in Summerville says she is not sure if she will attend a meeting about her confederate flag.

For the past few months, Ann Caddell has been flying a confederate flag in front of her house. Caddell says she has heard complaints from her black neighbors in the Brownsville community.

On Wednesday, residents will present a petition to the Summerville town council. The group wants to get a permit to parade up and down Caddell's street on Saturday in protest of the flag.

If they do, Caddell says none of it matters to her.

"I've never had it become an issue. No one has ever been this aggressive or mean about it," Caddell said. "And I'm not going to back down. I'm not."

Legally, Caddell has the right to fly the flag on her property.
