Summerville council approves illegal immigration law

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The Summerville town council voted on a new law to combat illegal immigrants Wednesday night.

The law requires employers to check the citizenship status of their workers.

The town rejected an earlier proposal that would have forced landlords to check the status of their tenants.

Some council members say they need to take a stand on immigration because federal authorities have not.
