COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Rides, exhibits and plenty of fried food are on tap as the South Carolina State Fair opens a 12-day run in Columbia.
The 141st version of the South Carolina State Fair opened Wednesday afternoon at 3:00, to run through Oct. 24.
Admission Wednesday is only $1. After Wednesday, most adults will pay $10 and children between 2-5 will be charged $2. Kids under 2 get in free. Seniors 55 and over will pay $5. Click here for ticket information
Admission for active military with proper military I. D. and their dependents is free for all 12 days of the fair. Admission for retired military members and their dependents is free on both Sundays with proper I. D.
There are plenty of new items to go with the traditional favorites of corn dogs, hamburgers and elephant ears, fried dough topped with a variety of powdered sugar, chocolate or fruit toppings.
New items this year include fried bologna on a stick.
Also doughnut burgers. That would be a hamburger patty between two Krispy Kreme doughnuts and with traditional topics of cheese, bacon, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes and onions.
