SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office and the Berkeley County School District will conduct a crisis simulation at Cane Bay High School on Friday, October 22. The time of the exercise has not been announced to provide more realistic training, but it will take place sometime in the morning.
The scenario being run will involve an active shooting simulation, suspect extraction, search and rescue, casualty recovery, and media procedures. BCSO tactical teams and staff and students from BCSD will participate in and view the simulation for instructional purposes.
Cane Bay will be closed for a workday, and only selected students and staff will be in the building at the time of the exercise. Traffic notices will be in place to let drivers know what is happening. The public is asked to not call 911 about the event.
The Sheriff's Office is preparing for the possibility of a shooting at a school like the September shooting at Socastee High School in Horry County.
