NORTH CHARELSTON, SC (WCSC) - State Senator Phil Leventis and North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey will host a community forum about the growth of the wind energy industry in South Carolina Tuesday night, October 19. The meeting will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the North Charleston City Council Chambers.
Wind energy is being touted as a clean alternative to fossil fuels. Several SC agencies are researching the idea, as well as investing in the technology required to harvest the energy off the coast.
Representatives from the SC Energy Office, Clemson University, IMO Group, Santee Cooper, the cities of Charleston and North Charleston, and Coastal Carolina University will be on hand to talk about the concept. From 6:30-7 will be a meet and greet with the experts, and at 7, a panel discussion will take place. The public is invited to ask questions of the panelists.
