Vigil for anti-gay bullying victims set for Oct. 20

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A coalition of gay and straight organizations and alliances in Charleston will be hosting a vigil to memorialize all young people who have committed suicide due to the humiliation of bullying, particularly anti-gay, homophobic, and transphobic bullying.  The group will also observe the anniversary of the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard on October 12, 1998, as well as the first anniversary of the Matthew Shepard Act, which was signed into law by President Obama on October 28, 2009.  Participants are asked to please wear purple.

The vigil will be held at Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Synagogue located at 90 Hasell Street in Charleston at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20.
