Custody battle brews over rescued Kennerleigh Farms horses

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A custody battle is brewing over a group of horses seized from a Johns Island farm.

Deputies say it's time for a Meggett rescue group to return the starved horses to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, but rescuers say the county didn't bring a veterinarian to sign off on their release.

Deputies say the horses were severely under-weight when they came from Kennerleigh Farms this summer.  Their care-taker, a CofC professor, was charged with animal cruelty.
