I-26 eastbound lanes now open after fatal crash near Newberry October 24, 2010 at 10:53 PM EST - Updated June 22 at 10:05 AM NEWBERRY, SC (WIS) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol reopened the eastbound lanes of Interstate 26 near Highway 121 around 11 p.m. Sunday after a fatal accident. At 4:11pm Sunday, troopers responded to the wreck near mile marker 69, just a few miles to the northeast of Newberry. Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said a car traveling westbound crossed the median and hit a car traveling eastbound. One person in the car traveling eastbound died. The interstate was closed for around 7 hours while troopers reconstructed the accident. Foster said in addition to the fatality, multiple people were injured.
