South Carolina State Fair closes, attendance up

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Workers at the South Carolina State Fair in Columbia are packing up and moving on.

The fair closed a 12-day run Sunday night.

Officials say attendance this year topped 492,000. That's up about 82,000 from 2009, when it rained for five days during the fair. The weather was mostly sunny and dry this year.

A sellout crowd of 5,000 people turned out for the fair's closing concert by Darius Rucker on Sunday.
