Police: Man's death a 'justifiable homicide'

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - No charges will be filed in the death of a 48-year-old who was gunned down inside of a Murrells Inlet home on Oct. 21.

Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for the Horry County Police Department, said detectives determined the death of Sean Johnson, 48, of Murrells Inlet, was a justifiable homicide.

Horry County Police were dispatched to an address on Winged Foot Court around 3 p.m. Thursday in reference to reports of a shooting.

An investigation into Johnson's death revealed he had arrived to his mother's house prior to the shooting and pointed a handgun at the woman.

"As [his mother] went to another room in the house to flee from him, the victim's step-father grabbed a firearm to protect the victim," Kegler said in a press release Monday.

Officials said as the step-father confronted Johnson, the 48-year-old pulled a handgun on the man. Kegler said shortly after pulling the gun, Johnson was fatally shot.

Kegler said the investigation into Johnson's death has since been closed.
