CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston Moves, a local bicycling advocacy group, is working to create a bicycle route from Folly Beach to the Isle of Palms via the Battery. The B2B, or Battery2Beach, not only can be used by residents for commuting and exercise, but the route can be exploited for tourism purposes.
There are obstacles to get over to make the entire route a finished, bicycle friendly reality, but Charleston Moves is giving interested cyclists a preview of the route on Saturday, October 30. Two groups will cycle from each end of the route to meet at Whitepoint Garden at The Battery. A party will follow at the Vendue Rooftop Bar.
The rides will start at Folly Beach County park and Isle of Palms County Park. They will be guided and start at 10 a.m. Cyclists can join the ride at any point along the way. The rides are also meant to bring attention to a fundraiser to make the route a reality. "Rent the Route" will let people rent a quarter mile of the B2B route for $100. Money raised will be used to make facilities improvements and mark the way from the Isle of Palms to The Battery to Folly Beach.
