WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Two men were arrested Wednesday outside of a Charleston high school after law enforcement officials found drugs and a gun in their car.

According to a police report, a West Ashley High School resource officer was alerted to two people sitting in a car that did not belong to a student. Because the car was on school property without proper registration, school officials were allowed to search the car.

When the two suspects, identified as 18-year-old Jerod Tubbs and 20-year-old Jacob Tubbs, exited the vehicle, officers spotted a bag of marijuana. Both men were arrested and a complete search of the car ensued.

During the search, officers found two pairs of handcuffs, a knife, a laptop, a bottle of prescription medicine, a credit card and a cell phone. Most of the items belonged to other people, but neither man knew how the presumably stolen objects got in the car.

Under the stick shift console cover, police found a .40-caliber handgun and a clip of ammunition.

Both men were placed under arrest and transported to the Charleston County Detention Center.
