Jenny Sanford gets $15,000 for USC speech

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Former first lady Jenny Sanford was paid $15,000 for a speech at the University of South Carolina this week.

The State newspaper reported Sanford talked about Gov. Mark Sanford's extramarital affair with a woman from Argentina. Jenny Sanford has been making appearances to promote the paperback version of her book "Staying True," which details their life and the fallout from his affair.

The appearance was first reported by the student newspaper, The Daily Gamecock. Sanford would not tell The State if the fee was in line with other appearances.

Associate vice president Jerry Brewer says the student-run Carolina Program Union invited Sanford and paid her with money from student activity fees, not tuition. Brewer says the administration tries to give students the freedom to spend activity fees as they choose.
