WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) – Two men were found by Walterboro police stabbed in their kitchen Thursday night.
Officers were dispatched to 319 Francis St. around 12:20 a.m. and found 60-year-old Samuel Leonard Steele and 46-year-old Harris Maurice Evans with stab wounds. Evans was flown to the Medical University hospital in critical condition.
Steele was taken to Colleton Medical Center.
According to a police report, officers interviewed Steele at Colleton Medical Center. Steele told police that he got into an argument with Evans and that Evans pushed him out the door and onto the ground, the report states. Steele said that he then went and got his fishing knife and stabbed Evans.
Steele told police that when he stabbed Evans, his hand slid down the blade and he cut his fingers. Steele also said that after stabbing Evans, Evans got a gun and hit Steele in the head with it. Steele said that Evans then took the knife and stabbed Steele under the left torso and under the left arm, the report stated.
The knife was recovered from by police, but they were unable to find the gun.
According to police, Steele was highly intoxicated. He was treated for his injuries and then placed under arrest.
