Owner of stolen car confronts the man driving it

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A man tried to take the law into his own hands when he saw his stolen car being driven down a road in Wilmington.

The man told Wilmington Police that Tuesday around noon, he left his keys in the ignition of his car when he went into a store. When he came back out, some one had stolen his 2005 blue Lexus.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. that same day, the man was riding in a friend's car when they spotted someone driving the Lexus on Princess Place Drive.

At a red light, the owner of the stolen vehicle got out of his friends car to confront the person who was driving his Lexus.

There was an altercation, then the man driving the Lexus tried to get away.

He backed up into a Honda, made a U-turn, and ran into a cemetery wall.

He drove off with the owner of the vehicle clinging to the hood of the car. He fell off, or was thrown, near 23rd Street. His injuries were minor.

Police are still looking for the stolen Lexus and the man who stole it. They believe the car is heavily damaged.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Wilmington Police Department at 910-343-3600.
