Dig it: Smithsonian scientists bring fossils to SC

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (AP) - Scientists from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington are bringing fossils from around the world to South Carolina.

The 27th Annual South Carolina Fossil Fair is scheduled for Saturday at the Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach.

The free event is sponsored by the South Carolina Fossil Association. Scientists are on hand to identify fossils brought in by guests, and there are also shell and fossil collections on display.

Guests will also learn about digging for fossils in a mock dig site.
