NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - After eight years without an arrest in the murder of a taxicab driver, tips led police in North Charleston to a man who was featured on a deck of criminal playing cards.

According to police, 42-year-old Derrick Wright Wednesday was arrested and charged with the 2002 murder of 62-year-old Eugene Thomas. Wright was featured as the two of Hearts on the Crimestoppers wanted criminals playing cards series.

The decks of cards are distributed to inmates in the prison system in the hopes that inmates will recognize a person or details of the case and share that information with police.

In September, 2002, police responded to a reportedly abandoned cab on Speissenger Drive. Upon arrival, officers noted a dark stain that appeared to be blood and found Thomas dead inside the vehicle, the police report stated.

Thomas had been stabbed several times in the neck, face and chest.

Wright is expected to appear in bond court at 2 p.m. Thursday.
