Cash checking employee accused of opening bogus accounts

WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - An employee of a money lending store was arrested after she allegedly used names of former customers to take out loans for herself, officials said Thursday.

Cynthia Johnson was arrested and charged with breach of trust after she opened 14 different loan accounts of former customers for her own personal gain, a police report stated. Johnson was employed at the Check Into Cash on Bells Highway in Walterboro.

Customers complained to the manager who in turn investigated and found the 14 accounts that only Johnson could access. The manager told police the total amount of the accounts was $8,850.

The manager also turned over surveillance videos that show only Johnson in the store at the time each of the accounts were created, the report stated.
