COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - A North Charleston man was sentenced Thursday in federal court on a series of gun and drug charges.
William Cooper, Jr.., 31, was sentenced to 15 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of possessing with intent to distribute more than 5 grams of crack cocaine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Evidence presented at the change of plea hearing established that in January of 2006 the North Charleston Police Department executed a search warrant at a motel room, where they found Cooper along with a .45-caliber handgun and approximately 9 grams of crack cocaine.
Then in April of 2008, North Charleston Police arrested Cooper after setting up an undercover drug purchase from him. At that time, Cooper had 125 grams of cocaine and 6 grams of crack cocaine on his person.
